Dr. Monica Broome is truly an exceptional human being. I met her shortly after she was elected to the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) Board of Directors, a telephone meeting arranged so we had an opportunity get to know one another on a personal level as we began our AMWA leadership journey together. Monica was immediately engaging, gracious and energetic in her enthusiastic approach to her upcoming term. I felt as though I had known her for years when we ended that first meeting – which says volumes about her warmth and dedication to shared values.
As our professional relationship grew, I found Dr. Broome to be a reliable and trusted colleague. She was available when I need a listening ear and creative when I asked the board to engage in problem-solving. Her unending support has continued in the ensuing years and developed into a lasting friendship that is based on mutual respect and dedication to improving communication and advancing equity in all aspects of medicine.

Dr. Monica Broome is more than a teacher to me. I am one of her medical students and have had the privilege to learn from Dr. Broome in the clinical setting, small group setting, and in leadership positions. What sets Dr. Broome apart from other mentors I have had is her heart. She leads with it, teaches with it and listens with it. Her passion for niche topics in medicine such as communication skills and empathy, topics that are often overlooked but are truly critical to a well-functioning system, have impacted me and my training in long-lasting ways. She makes topics relevant and understandable to her audience, coming up with innovative ways to teach and communicate with others - truly practicing what she preaches. Dr. Broome takes the extra step with her students to make them feel heard. Her office door is always open, with a full jar of candy and a willingness to listen to any student who walks in. Not only does she offer salient career advice but has helped me on multiple occasions work through personal issues. She builds a trust with her students that I have not found in many others during my medical training. In a fairly performative and hardened industry, Dr. Broome brings softness and realness to medical education. She is loved by all who are lucky enough to meet her. My gratitude for Dr. Broome is endless, and she could not be more deserving of recognition for all she pours into her students.

Dr. Broome offers insight into a skill set that often gets little attention in formal training settings yet is perhaps the most important set of qualities one can possess: the power of communication, of human connection, of empathy. The "soft skills" of medicine are as essential as they are subtle. Dr. Broome's caring demeanor coupled with her knowledge of evidenced-based medicine and use of multiple teaching modalities allows her to educate others on how to become more thoughtful physicians, more intuitive medical students, more perceptive patients. Yet she is not only skilled in the art of professional communication; by following the techniques she teaches, one cannot help but become closer to his/her best self. It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to learn from Dr. Broome. Profound gratitude does not even begin to describe it.

I am an RN and worked as a Hospital Representative with Merck Pharmaceuticals from 1995-2009.
During my years of service I was lucky enough to meet Dr. Broome. She has a spark and warmth to her that immediately made me enjoy calling on her. She taught me so ' much...though I was there to keep her up on the latest drugs. The way she simplified the mechanism of action, etc made my job easier.
Due to Dr Broomes' in depth knowledge of disease .drugs and combination of both....i chose her to be one of my speakers. She spoke at luncheons, breakfasts, dinners for residents, interns, and specialists throughout Miami and Miami Beach.
I had the doctors fill out evaluations after all of my talks....Dr Broome was a favorite.
I had many BIG named doctors from BIG named hospitals and universities...
however, I must say Dr. Broome held her own and was requested by docs and other reps to speak over many of these other speakers. She never disappointed, answered any question and was received with respect and total
enthusiasm at each presentation.
If I had my way...I would have Dr. Broome speak, teach explain any and all medical and communication skills to any audience. Trust me, everyone leaves with a pearl of wisdom after a Dr. Broom lecture.
Sincerely.

I have seen Dr. Monica Broome in action. As she was a lecturer on a national speaker’s bureau, I used her expertise during my tenure as an account representative. All her lectures are always brimming with enthusiasm for her topic. Her knowledge, preparation and thoroughness is next to none. Her ability to communicate her message is only enhanced by her ability to engage her audience around a given topic. While high performance communication is her area of expertise, the practice of that art is a strong component of why she is so good at what she does.
